Teachworks suits schools that want accounting and calendar integrations, according to its public pages as of 21 October 2026. Halqora suits online academies of one-to-one classes that want per-student invoicing currency, payment matching and a built-in classroom with fixed outcome rules for teacher pay.
Halqora is our product. We’ve tried to keep this comparison fair: competitor details come from their public pages, checked on the date shown. Tell us if anything is out of date at support@halqora.com.
Halqora vs Teachworks: the short answer
Halqora is management software for online academies. Halqora schedules, bills and calculates teacher pay for one-to-one live classes. The practical reason to choose Halqora is to keep those connected jobs together when its one-to-one model and fixed rules fit your academy.
Teachworks has a stronger case when your school depends on external systems. Teachworks says its integrations include QuickBooks Online, two-way Google Calendar sync, MailChimp, Zapier and an API. Keeping an established accounting or calendar workflow can matter more than bringing the classroom into the management software.
That distinction matters when comparing subscriptions. Teachworks charges for student-lesson volume alongside a base fee. Halqora charges by active student. Halqora does not support group classes; siblings have separate one-to-one classes but can share a family invoice.
Comparison checked 21 October 2026
The comparison above uses Teachworks’ public pricing, feature and help pages supplied for this review. The notes distinguish a listed feature from a narrower workflow. For example, support for another invoice currency does not necessarily mean payments are processed in that currency.
The Teachworks pricing page shows conflicting price sets as of 21 October 2026. The higher set supplies the calculation below; the lower set is reproduced so you can ask Teachworks which applies before committing.
| Teachworks plan | Monthly base (USD) | Per student lesson (USD) | Older displayed monthly base (USD) | Older displayed per student lesson (USD) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | 16.49 | 0.32 | 15 | 0.25 |
| Growth | 47.99 | 0.189 | 45 | 0.15 |
| Premium | 187.99 | 0.065 | 175 | 0.05 |
All figures in that table come from Teachworks’ pricing page as of 21 October 2026. Teachworks also lists a 21-day trial. A published feature description establishes what the vendor says; it does not replace trying the workflow with your own schedule and invoice requirements.
What 60 students would cost on each
Example: 60 one-to-one students taking 8 lessons each produce 60 x 8 = 480 student lessons per month. Using the higher Teachworks price set as of 21 October 2026, Growth costs less than Halqora Academy in this example.
| Plan | Monthly calculation (USD) | Monthly total (USD) |
|---|---|---|
| Teachworks Starter | 16.49 + 480 x 0.32 | 170.09 |
| Teachworks Growth | 47.99 + 480 x 0.189 | 138.71 |
| Teachworks Premium | 187.99 + 480 x 0.065 | 219.19 |
| Halqora Academy | 60 x 2.50 | 150 |
Teachworks Growth is the cheapest Teachworks plan in this example. The result is a subscription comparison, without assigning invented costs to classroom services or payment providers. Halqora Academy includes a built-in classroom; compare that with the classroom arrangement you would use alongside Teachworks.
As of 21 October 2026, Halqora pricing is Starter USD 39/mo up to 25 active students; Academy USD 2.50 per active student per month, USD 99 minimum; and Scale custom for 300+ students. Annual billing gives 2 months free. Halqora offers a 14-day pilot, free onboarding and data import.
Lesson frequency changes the comparison. With Teachworks, more billable student lessons increase the usage charge. With Halqora, the Academy calculation follows the active-student count. Teachworks says cancelled lessons are excluded from its student-lesson charges. Use your actual lesson volume rather than choosing a plan from its base fee alone.
Our guide to tutoring software pricing models explains why these different billing units matter. A lower subscription total is a valid reason to choose Teachworks when the rest of the workflow fits.
Time zones and currencies: free add-ons vs built in
Teachworks supports local-time scheduling through its free User Time Zones add-on, according to the add-on page as of 21 October 2026. The comparison is about how scheduling is organized, rather than whether Teachworks supports time zones.
Halqora stores scheduling rules in each IANA time zone. Admins and teachers see calendars in their own zones. When evaluating time-zone-safe scheduling, check which person’s local time should anchor a recurring class, then check how the schedule appears to the other person.
Teachworks also offers the free Currency Converted Invoice Totals add-on. Its page says you can manually set an invoice total in a currency different from the account default, as of 21 October 2026.
According to Teachworks’ international-company setup guide, Stripe payments are processed in the currency set in the Teachworks account. A converted invoice total should therefore be evaluated separately from the currency collected through Stripe.
Halqora’s per-student invoicing currency stays with the student’s rates, invoices and payments. Halqora never converts invoices. Families with students assigned different currencies need review rather than receiving an automatically combined invoice. Dashboard USD totals are approximate and use static rates; they are not converted invoice balances.
Payments: Stripe and QuickBooks vs PayPal, Wise and Mercury sync
Teachworks lists Stripe payments and QuickBooks Online payment sync on its integrations page as of 21 October 2026. According to Teachworks’ Stripe integration guide, emailed invoices include a Pay Online button. Teachworks is a sensible choice when Stripe collection and QuickBooks are already central to your business.
Halqora connects PayPal, Stripe, Mercury and Wise (wise.com). PayPal and Stripe invoice payments are read back into Halqora. Mercury invoice sync supports USD. Halqora matches incoming Wise (wise.com) transfers; Halqora does not create those transfers or send money through that connection.
Wise (wise.com) matching looks for an invoice reference, or an exact amount, currency and payer-name match. Unclear candidates go to an unmatched queue for an admin. Matching depends on the information returned by the provider, so you should plan to review exceptions rather than assume every bank transfer will resolve itself.
Halqora billing runs create draft invoices. An admin reviews and sends the invoices, and unpaid invoices receive automatic email reminders. The default due date is 7 days after sending; reminders default to 3 days before the due date, 3 days after and 10 days after. Invoice due days, reminder schedules and email wording can be changed.
Halqora families open a private invoice page and PDF without an account. Each student also has a permanent private class link showing the next class. Those links do not expire; an admin can replace a link to stop the old link working. The class link is a place to check the schedule, rather than a class reminder service.
Classroom, teacher pay and analytics
Teachworks’ integrations page lists Lessonspace, Pencil Spaces, Zoom, Google Meet and Skype through location links as of 21 October 2026. That arrangement suits a school already happy with a separate classroom provider. Evaluate the classroom you actually plan to use alongside the management subscription.
Halqora’s built-in classroom includes video, a shared whiteboard, synchronized PDF pages and annotation. A student needs the teacher’s permission to share a screen. Chat stays closed until an admin opens it. Classroom tools do not automatically decide whether a class happened or how much the teacher earned.
Teachers record a completed class with a report, a student no-show or a student cancellation. Admins resolve other outcomes and record late minutes, wait minutes and emergency exceptions. Reports contain a 1 to 5 rating and written feedback for admins; families do not see the reports. Payroll for a period waits until reports are in.
Halqora uses fixed outcome rules, including rules such as a 2-minute lateness grace period. At 3 to 5 minutes late, the deduction is a flat 5% of that class’s pay. Beyond 5 minutes, the teacher loses a minute of pay for every minute late, counted from the scheduled start, with a floor of zero.
For a student no-show, full teacher pay requires waiting at least half the class. Teacher pay is calculated per class from an hourly rate, without currency conversion. Halqora prepares payroll calculations; an admin records payment after paying the teacher outside Halqora.
According to Teachworks’ billing page, as of 21 October 2026, Teachworks calculates teacher hours and earnings from calendar lessons and provides payment forms for a period. That description is not enough to assume its treatment of lateness or no-shows matches Halqora’s fixed rules. Ask Teachworks about your specific policy.
Halqora analytics compare teacher and student cancellation and no-show rates with the previous period, plus teacher lateness. The rates depend on recorded outcomes. Teachworks’ records page describes reports filtered by dates, lesson status, service type, teacher, student and location as of 21 October 2026. Choose the view that answers your actual management questions.
Choose Teachworks if…
Teachworks is the stronger fit when QuickBooks Online, external calendars or other connected systems are essential. Its integrations page says it offers 80+ free integrations and add-ons as of 21 October 2026. Replacing an established workflow deserves a concrete reason beyond a different interface.
Teachworks also suits operators managing branches. Teachworks’ public site describes multi-branch and white label options as of 21 October 2026, while its pricing page lists 5 branches with Premium. Confirm the plan you need for your branch arrangement.
Teachworks says it offers versions for music, driving, test-prep and language schools, in 45 languages as of 21 October 2026. Halqora’s interface is English only. A school that needs its software in another language should treat that as a reason to look at Teachworks.
Teachworks deserves serious consideration when your usage calculation comes out lower, as Growth does in the supplied example. If you want a broader shortlist before deciding, compare the workflows in our Teachworks alternatives guide.
Choose Halqora if…
Halqora fits an academy running one-to-one live classes when families need invoices in their own assigned currencies. The payment connections are also relevant when your collection process includes PayPal, incoming Wise (wise.com) transfers or USD Mercury invoices alongside Stripe.
Halqora also fits an owner who wants the classroom, recorded outcomes, draft billing and teacher-pay calculations together. The fixed rules need to match your policy. A system that consistently applies a rule you disagree with is still the wrong fit.
Before switching, check your roster currencies, recurring schedules and teacher-pay policy against those limits. Free onboarding and data import help with setup, but they do not change the product’s one-to-one class model or fixed outcome rules. Keep the decision tied to the work your academy actually needs to do.
