For online teaching, choose LearnCube or Google Meet for free one-to-ones, or Pencil Spaces and Lessonspace for paid teaching rooms. As of 21 October 2026, Pencil Spaces starts at USD 0.40/hour with a USD 4/month minimum; Lessonspace costs USD 9/month for 10 hours.
Why do teachers look beyond Zoom?
Teachers look beyond Zoom when meeting software gets in the way of the lesson. A meeting timer, a separate worksheet, and a separate whiteboard can each create another task for the teacher. A teaching classroom is worth considering when the teacher needs students to follow the same page or work on shared material during the call.
Start with the actual problem. According to Zoom’s pricing page, Basic meetings have a 40-minute limit as of 21 October 2026. If that timer interrupts your classes, moving to a free service with a longer allowance may solve the problem without changing your teaching materials.
Google’s Meet guidance lists a 24-hour limit for free one-to-one meetings and a 60-minute limit for meetings with 3 or more participants, as of 21 October 2026. Google Meet is therefore a better choice when you want free, long one-to-ones and already have a workable way to share lesson materials.
A different problem needs a different answer. If the student loses the teacher’s place in a document, compare page controls. If the teacher spends time switching between writing tools, compare whiteboards. If your problem is unpaid invoices, assess academy management separately from video.
Our Zoom vs Google Meet for tutoring comparison helps with the meeting-tool decision. A dedicated classroom deserves a trial when the lesson itself needs more structure.
How do teaching classrooms compare on features and price?
Teaching classrooms use different charging units, so the cheapest headline price may not fit your academy. According to the vendor pages, the options below charge by subscription, session hour, or active student. All competitor prices and plan details in the table are dated 21 October 2026. Treat the table as a shortlist, then confirm the plan you need.
| Tool | Starting price (currency/month unless stated) | Free option | Whiteboard | Recording | Notable for teaching |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| LearnCube | Pro from USD 19 | Basic: free one-to-one classes | Yes | Vendor lists availability; confirm plan | Content library |
| Pencil Spaces | USD 0.40/session hour; USD 4/month minimum | 14-day trial | Infinite whiteboard | Expert: 90-day storage | Observer mode |
| Lessonspace | USD 9 for 10 hours/month | Trial | Infinite canvas | 90-day free storage | Leading Mode |
| BitPaper | Individual: USD 15 | Join papers and calls | Multi-page | Unverified; ask vendor | PDF import/export |
| Bramble | Pro Tutor: GBP 7.50, billed yearly | 1 to 2 students | Yes | Vendor says every session is recorded and transcribed | Student-based tutor plans |
| Google Meet | Free | One-to-ones up to 24 hours | Check plan | Check plan | General-purpose meetings |
| Halqora classroom pricing | Academy: USD 2.50/active student/month; USD 99 minimum | 14-day pilot | Excalidraw | None | Quran viewer and PDF page sync |
The table draws on the pricing pages linked above, plus BitPaper’s pricing, Bramble’s tutor pricing, and Halqora’s pricing. Halqora offers a 14-day pilot, free onboarding, and data import.
Do not treat an unverified table entry as proof that a feature is absent. Ask the vendor to demonstrate the exact workflow you need. For usage pricing, ask how the vendor measures a session hour before projecting your bill.
When should you choose LearnCube, Pencil Spaces, or Lessonspace?
LearnCube, Pencil Spaces, and Lessonspace suit teachers who want a room designed around lesson activity. LearnCube’s free Basic plan is a useful starting point for one-to-one teaching. Pencil Spaces is worth comparing when you prefer usage pricing. Lessonspace deserves a closer look when keeping the student’s view aligned with the teacher matters more than a familiar meeting layout.
According to LearnCube’s pricing page, as of 21 October 2026, Virtual Classroom Basic includes unlimited one-to-one classes and a library of up to 10 files. That makes LearnCube a better starting point than a paid management system when you need a teaching room without taking on scheduling and billing software.
LearnCube lists Pro from USD 19/month, including group classes, branding, and breakout rooms. Its Online School Premium starts at USD 99/month and lists scheduling, automated reminders, attendance, and class reporting. Compare the relevant tier rather than assuming every feature belongs to Basic.
According to Pencil Spaces’ pricing page, Pro costs USD 0.40 per session hour, billed per minute, with a 10-hour minimum costing USD 4/month, as of 21 October 2026. Expert costs USD 1/hour with a USD 10/month minimum. Master costs USD 5/hour with a USD 50/month minimum.
Pencil Spaces lists a 14-day trial without a card. Use the trial to test the whiteboard and observer workflow with your own materials. A teacher should be able to return to the lesson after changing tools without needing an admin to guide the student.
According to Lessonspace’s pricing page, Basic costs USD 9/month for 10 hours, with additional usage at USD 1.95/hour, as of 21 October 2026. Starter lists USD 29/month for 30 hours; Pro lists USD 99/month for 100 hours. Up to 4 participants per session are included.
Lessonspace’s Leading Mode guide says participants follow the leader’s view. That control is a concrete reason to test Lessonspace if students often navigate away from the teaching material. Test how students regain independent movement, too; useful control depends on the exercise.
When do whiteboard-first tools such as BitPaper and Bramble fit?
BitPaper and Bramble are worth considering when shared writing is central to the lesson. Start the comparison with the worksheet or diagram your teacher actually uses. A whiteboard demonstration is useful when both teacher and student can write, change pages, and return to earlier work in a way that matches your teaching routine.
According to BitPaper’s pricing page, Individual costs USD 15/month and has a 30-day trial, as of 21 October 2026. The free plan allows joining papers and calls created by others. Free participation should not be confused with a free plan for creating and running your own teaching workspace.
BitPaper lists a multi-page whiteboard and PDF import/export. If your lessons revolve around prepared sheets, test an actual PDF rather than an empty canvas. Check whether the teacher can keep handwriting readable and whether the student can find the assigned page without repeated instructions.
BitPaper’s Company pricing is USD 50/month plus USD 1.00/paper and USD 0.20/call hour, according to its page as of 21 October 2026. Compare that charging model with Individual before choosing a plan for your teaching team.
Bramble’s tutor page lists a free tier for 1 to 2 students, as of 21 October 2026. Pro Tutor covers 3 to 5 students at GBP 7.50/month billed yearly or GBP 10 monthly. Elite Tutor lists GBP 21/month billed yearly or GBP 25 monthly.
Bramble says every session is recorded and transcribed. Treat that as part of the teaching workflow you must assess, rather than an incidental extra. Our guide to online whiteboards for tutoring gives you another way to organize the classroom trial.
When should the classroom be part of academy software?
A classroom built into academy software makes sense when the room is part of a larger operating problem. You may need to connect the scheduled class, the family’s joining link, the teacher’s outcome, and the invoice. Compare those steps explicitly. A strong whiteboard alone does not tell you how an academy will manage the work around the lesson.
According to Qutor’s public site, as of 21 October 2026, Qutor offers a browser classroom with video, audio, text chat, and a whiteboard. Qutor also advertises lesson recording and playback. Those are useful requirements to test if your academy needs students to revisit lessons.
According to Clasify’s Quran academy page, as of 21 October 2026, Clasify offers browser-based audio and video for one-to-one and small-group halaqas, with screen sharing and chat. Clasify is worth assessing when small-group teaching is a requirement. Halqora does not support group classes.
Halqora is management software for online academies. Halqora currently schedules, bills, and calculates teacher pay for one-to-one classes in a fixed set of 5 Quran and Islamic subjects. Halqora does not support language, math, or general tutoring subjects today. For those subjects, choose a tool that fits your curriculum.
Halqora families use permanent private class links without an account. Billing runs create draft invoices for admin review and sending. Those workflows matter when you are choosing an operating system alongside a room. They should carry less weight if you already have management software that works.
How can you choose a classroom for your academy?
Choose a classroom by testing your lesson format, your materials, and the work around each class. Use the same lesson task in every trial so the comparison stays useful. A feature name is less informative than watching a teacher and student complete the task. Keep a short list of requirements that would make you reject a tool.
- Does the classroom fit your class format? Confirm whether you teach one-to-one or in groups before comparing prices. LearnCube Pro, Lessonspace, and Clasify have relevant group options in the supplied vendor details. Halqora supports one-to-one classes. A room that cannot support your format should leave the shortlist early.
- Can the teacher control the lesson material appropriately? Try writing, changing pages, and directing the student’s attention. Use a real worksheet and ask the student to navigate independently. Then check how the teacher brings the student back. Compare that behavior with the way your teachers explain a lesson.
- What will your actual usage cost? Write down the charging unit beside each quote: session hours, subscription, or active students. Include stated minimums and additional usage charges. Keep GBP and USD quotes separate unless you have a current conversion source; a smaller numeral does not establish a cheaper plan.
- Do you need recorded lessons? Halqora does not record. If recorded lessons are required, assess the vendors that advertise recording. For children, the NSPCC’s filming guidance calls for a specific, legitimate purpose. This is general information, not legal or tax advice; check with an adviser in your country.
- Who handles the work after class? Follow the teacher’s outcome through your admin process. Decide where lesson notes belong and who reviews invoices. In Halqora, lesson reports are internal to teachers and admins; families do not see them. Do not choose a classroom on the assumption that every report becomes a parent update.
Use a virtual classroom features checklist to keep trial notes consistent. Prefer the tool that meets your required workflow with a price you can explain, even when another tool has a longer feature list.
How Halqora handles this
Halqora includes a classroom on the Academy plan at USD 2.50 per active student per month, with a USD 99 minimum. The classroom combines LiveKit video, an Excalidraw whiteboard, a synced Madinah Mushaf viewer, and PDF page sync. Students need teacher permission to share their screens. Chat stays closed until an admin opens it.
